About the Author
Robert W. Kolb holds the Frank W. Considine Chair in Applied Ethics at Loyola University Chicago. He was formerly Assistant Dean for Business and Society (2003–2006) at the University of Colorado, and John S. and James L. Knight Professor of Finance at the University of Miami. He is author and co-author of numerous texts in finance, including Futures, Options, and Swaps, 5e (with James A. Overdahl, Blackwell, 2007) and Understanding Futures Markets, 6e (with James A. Overdahl, Blackwell, 2006).

James A. Overdahl is Chief Economist at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in Washington, D.C., and has held senior positions at the Risk Analysis Division at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and at the Securities and Exchange Commission. He has been an adjunct professor of finance at Georgetown University, the University of Maryland, George Washington University, and Johns Hopkins University.

Great book even for those not familiar with Derivatives

I found this book very useful, easy to read, and easy to navigate when trying to quickly find how to structure hedges or trades. I was also lucky enough to have one of the authors as my professor. Though I highly recommend previous coursework in Derivatives, this book will also introduce basic fundamentals of Derivatives.

One by one, the other denizens of the boarding house marry and move away, but Esther remains, lonely and longing for a husband and a future. Her plan is to find the right man and use the money she's saved to open a beauty parlor where black women will be treated as royally as the white women she sews for. By way of a mutual acquaintance, she begins to receive beautiful letters from a lonesome Caribbean man named George who is working on the Panama Canal. Being illiterate, Esther has one of her patrons respond to the letters, and over time the correspondence becomes increasingly intimate until George persuades her that they should marry, sight unseen. Meanwhile, Esther's heart seems to lie with the Hasidic shopkeeper from whom she buys cloth, and his heart with her, but the impossibility of the match is obvious to them both, and Esther consents to marry George. When George arrives in New York, however, he turns out not to be the man his letters painted him to be, and he absconds with Esther's savings, frittering it away on whores and liquor. Deeply wounded by the betrayal, but somehow unbroken, Esther returns to the boarding house determined to use her gifted hands and her sewing machine to refashion her dreams and make them anew from the whole cloth of her life's experiences.

A touching drama

I have a slightly negative view of this play because I recently saw it performed horribly. It does not have a lot of action, but it is not a bad script, it just needs to be performed and directed well.

This play is centers around an African-America woman in her thirties in the early 1900s. She is a seamstress and sews under garments for well off ladies in New york.

This is a play that makes you think about the intricacies of relationships. All of the characters want what they can't have and it creates tension that builds and builds throughout the play.

There is a some sexual content and lesbian curiosity, but it is not over the top and it furthers the story.

It is a pretty good play and I would recommend it and other plays by this author. I have read two of her plays and she creates wonderful worlds full of complex characters.

One of My Favorites

I had to read this play, along with 16 others for a college course. And this one stood out from the rest in ways I cannot describe. This play adddresses gender issues in a way I commend. But I lament its missed oppurtunity addressing race issues. It is more of a happenstance in this play more than anything. I recommend this play greatly.

Of all the books addressing this complex area in Child Custody Evaluation, this text is the one I found most helpful. The author's use of nine hypothesis for testing the information gathered in the evaluation is the central theme in using this text. Allegations of child abuse in family law conflict are some of the most sensitive and important questions an evaluator ever faces. The stakes are very high for everyone, especially the children. This text has a very rich array of current research and demonstrates a comprehensive and insightful knowledge of this field. In completing a recent evaluation, I found this text extrordinarily helpful.

Assessing Allegations of Child Sexual Abuse is easily one of the best researched and practical texts in this field. In an arena fraught with landmines, Dr. Kuehnle provides a balanced roadmap for assessing these allegations and protecting children. I particularily like and value the nine hypotheses she uses as a framework for analysing the data and making a balanced, thoughtful recommendation.
Of all the many texts I have read in this field, this one is clearly the best.
